After two years of isolation, we are all ready to get together with you in person, LifeStriders Style - and have some fun. Finally!
What better way to do it then with a Sunday at the LifeStriders’ campus enjoying family fun, food and games, to conclude the 4th Annual Derby Days fundraising event, and to host the first ever Triple Crown Team Events and BBQ.
The day will feature the New Triple Crown Team Races, and be a celebration of all the Derby Days participants and winners, and the life strides that these individuals and families have made through the therapies at LifeStriders.
What better way to do it then with a Sunday at the LifeStriders’ campus enjoying family fun, food and games, to conclude the 4th Annual Derby Days fundraising event, and to host the first ever Triple Crown Team Events and BBQ.
The day will feature the New Triple Crown Team Races, and be a celebration of all the Derby Days participants and winners, and the life strides that these individuals and families have made through the therapies at LifeStriders.
Sounds fun? Here are more of the racing details:
To win the Triple Crown Trophy and Title, your team will need to have the highest score after totaling all three triple crown race scores. No horse or special athletic skills are necessary to compete. The winning team or company will be featured in the final Winner’s Circle Ceremony and Celebration, and be awarded the Triple Crown Winner's Trophy.
#1 Run for the Roses:
Teams will pick their best speed walkers to “strut their stuff” and compete for the first of the Triple Crown events. Competitors will enter the gate wearing an inflatable horse costume and your team colors. Sure to be fun and entertaining on the track and a delight for the spectators! This is more than a race of speed as “horses” will score points for showmanship of their very own unique strut.
#2 Run for the Black Eyed Susans:
This event will really test your communication skills as your four-person team breaks into two teams of two while navigating two different patterns. This is an exercise in communication, as one team member gives directions to the other team member who is wearing a horse costume, while they attempt to complete the pattern perfectly. Once the teams take their positions on the track, each communicator will receive a diagram of the pattern on a card. They must shout directions to the “horse” while judges monitor accuracy of the patterns and time speed. Truly the stakes are getting higher as the scorecards are tallied to see who will be the top contender.
#3 Run for the Carnations:
Get ready for the most challenging of the contests. This will be a triple challenge showing true teamwork. Starting with a Five Legged Race (all team members will have at least one leg tied to another team member) while wearing your team colors and your Derby Hat and carrying your Mint Julep drink as you navigate the track. It is still anyone’s race for the championship, as the stakes are high for this final contest. One member will wear the horse costume, one member will wear your original Derby Hat, one member will carry the Mint Julep (which is carefully marked on the glass noting the level of the contents) and then you decide how you will compete in throwing Horseshoes for the final score.
