Paddock and Land Restoration Project
Above, you can see that in the winter and spring, LifeStriders is suffering from paddocks that have been over-trafficked and over-utilized for a number of years now, and subjected to heavier, faster rains than ever before. The problem with this is that our pastures and land are not draining properly and it is not healthy for the horses to stand in this wet mud. It is also very difficult for our volunteers to access the horses properly when the land and pastures are saturated like this.

The problem with this is that our pastures and land are not draining properly and it is not healthy for the horses to stand in this wet mud. It is also very difficult for our volunteers to access the horses properly when the land and pastures are saturated like this.
To remedy this situation, our plan is to create a stone and gravel drainage system, underneath a set of fenced-in trails and drainage areas, that will allow for rapid water absorption in the areas where the horses and volunteer horse handlers spend the most time. In the middle of the trails will be a beautiful grassy infield that we can control access to through infield fences, depending on the season and the horses’ needs. This is an excellent method to manage horses on smaller acreage.
Together with the addition of 30 trees and some strategically pitched drainage beds around the campus, we are confident that this system will help restore our paddocks and land to good health, provide a healthier environment for our horses, and be a safer footing for our volunteers and staff.
Cost for Paddock and Land Restoration Project: $140k
